Johann Zarco Suffers Knee Injuries After Catalunya Crash

The LCR Honda team announced that Johann Zarco has suffered injuries to the cruciate ligaments and meniscus of his left knee following a devastating crash at the first turn after the first restart of Saturday’s Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Zarco collided with Luca Marini, causing him to fall and hit Francesco Bagnaia. Zarco’s left leg became trapped between Bagnaia’s rear tire and his seat. Two safety car interventions followed, and Zarco remained on the ground, necessitating a second race stoppage.

The French rider was provided medical assistance at the safety car zone and was then transported to the University Hospital in Barcelona for more thorough examinations. The examinations revealed injuries to the cruciate ligaments and meniscus of his left knee, as well as a small fibula tear in the ankle area.

Zarco spent the night in the hospital and is being transported back to France today to consult with specialists regarding his recovery. Given the severity of his injuries, he is likely to miss several upcoming MotoGP races.
