The controversial owner of Panathinaikos, Dimitris Janakopulos, made a bold statement following his team's shocking elimination in the EuroLeague playoff series against Valencia.

The Athenian giant, which had high ambitions and a significantly bolstered roster, was left without a playoff spot in its home city, a huge disappointment for Greece. Janakopulos had been bullish all season long, praising the team, claiming they had the strongest roster, and predicting a new European title — only to see all of these claims fall flat.

Valencia, with a roster of overpaid stars, outplayed the "green" team and justly secured a spot in the final four of the EuroLeague, which will be held in Panathinaikos' home arena.

Shortly after the elimination, Janakopulos took to social media to deliver a message that immediately stirred up the European basketball world. "I'll tell you something — bitterness is cured with bitterness. We've gone through tough times, but we know how to come back," he said.

Panathinaikos will now focus on the final stages of the domestic league, while Valencia will face Real Madrid in the EuroLeague final four. Olympiacos and Fenerbahçe will compete in the other semifinal.
