Manchester City has confirmed that long-serving coach Pep Guardiola (55) will leave the club at the end of the season. The Catalan tactician joined City in July 2016 and transformed the club, amassing 20 major trophies, making him the most successful manager in the club's history.
Despite leaving his coaching position, Guardiola will continue to collaborate with City Football Group as a global ambassador, providing expert advice to clubs within the group and working on special projects, according to the club's statement.
Guardiola: Don't Ask Me for Reasons to Leave
"When I arrived, the first interview I did was with Noel Gallagher. I thought, 'Okay... Noel is here? This is going to be fun,'" Guardiola began. "And what moments we have shared together. Don't ask me for the reasons to leave. There aren't any, but deep down I know it's my time to go. Nothing is eternal, and if it were, I would stay here. Love will be eternal, the people, the memories, the love I hold for my Manchester City."
"This is a city built on work. On effort. You see it in the brick color. In the people who come early and stay late. The factories. The unions. The music. The Industrial Revolution and how it changed the world. I think I came to understand that over time, as did my boys."
"We worked. We suffered. We fought. And we did it our way. The City way. Hard work comes in many forms. The trips to Bournemouth, when we lost the Premier League and you were there. The trips to Istanbul, and you were there."
"Do you remember the attack on Manchester Arena, when this city showed the world what true strength looks like? No anger. No fear. Just love. Unity. Connection. A united city."
"Do you remember when I lost my mother during the COVID pandemic and felt how the club carried me through that? The fans, the staff, the people of Manchester, you gave me strength when I needed it the most. Cris, my children, my entire family, you were there as always. Khaldoon, you were there too."
"Players don't forget—nothing, not a single moment, me, my staff, this club, nothing. Everything we did, we did it for all of you. You were simply extraordinary. You don't know it yet, but you leave a legacy."
"So, as my time draws to a close, be happy. Oasis have reunited. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for believing in me. Thank you for dragging me. Thank you for loving me. Tony Walsh said in his unforgettable poem that this place is. Sorry, Tony: this is my place. Noel... I was right. It was bloody fun. I love you all."
Praise from the Top
"Over the past ten years, honesty and trust have been the foundation on which we worked with Pep through every situation, always aware that together we could find the right answer. Today, the right answer is that Pep ends his journey as Manchester City's manager," club president Khaldoon Al Mubarak said.
"There were moments on that journey when he could have stopped and that would have been enough. But Pep somehow always found new energy and kept going, finding different and innovative ways to achieve victories and success. As a result, the club has a decade of memories and success that it will forever be grateful for, but much more than that—a transformation that cannot be undone."
"His unique approach to coaching allowed him to constantly challenge the established truths in our game. That's why in the past ten years, not only has Manchester City become better, but so has football."
"We Witnessed His Greatness and Dedication"
CEO Ferran Soriano added, "We had the privilege of working with Pep Guardiola for 10 years. We witnessed his greatness and dedication, but we also enjoyed his company, friendship, and humanity."
