Greece Clarifies Flotilla Incident: Ships in International Waters, No Prior Consultation with Israel
On April 30, the Israeli military intercepted boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla in the waters west of Crete. Greece's government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis, did not address the criticism directly. Instead, he deferred to the statements made by relevant ministries during a briefing for political editors in the early afternoon of the same day.
Marinakis highlighted that the boats were operating in international waters, far from Greek territorial waters. He also noted that there were no prior consultations with Israel regarding the movement of these vessels.
The incident involved several speedboats from the Israeli military that intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was attempting to deliver humanitarian aid and supplies to Gaza.
