Former Romanian international Gabi Tamaș is on the verge of returning to football after retiring as a player three years ago. The 42-year-old is reportedly close to signing with ASA Târgu Mureș, where he would take on a leadership role within the club.

Ambitious plans are in the works at ASA Târgu Mureș, with the club aiming to secure promotion to Romania's Superliga in the 2026/2027 season. Tamaș, who has a rich history in the sport, is seen as a valuable asset to help achieve these goals.

Tamaș retired from playing in October 2023 after his stint with Concordia Chiajna. Following his retirement, he briefly served as the sports director at Concordia Chiajna until December 2025. His playing career spanned from 1999, when he began with FC Brașov, to stints in Romania, Turkey, Russia, Spain, France, England, and Israel. Notable clubs in his career include Galatasaray, Celta Vigo, Auxerre, Dinamo, and FCSB. For the Romanian national team, Tamaș earned 67 caps and scored three goals.

ASA Târgu Mureș finished the regular season of Liga 2 in seventh place, just outside the playoff positions. The club aims to improve its standing in the upcoming season.

Tamaș has previously expressed interest in pursuing coaching courses to obtain a PRO license, though he has noted the time commitment is significant.
