Filippo Ganna Wins Stage 10 Time Trial at Giro d'Italia
Double world champion in individual time trials, Filippo Ganna from Team Ineos, won the 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia. The Italian cyclist completed the 42-kilometer route from Viareggio to Massa in 45 minutes and 53 seconds, leaving no chance to his competitors.
From the start in Viareggio, Ganna displayed exceptional power, overtaking a series of cyclists who started minutes before him. At the finish in Massa, he claimed his 40th career victory in road cycling and his 32nd in time trials. This marks his eighth stage victory in the Giro d'Italia.
Tymen Arensmann, Ganna's teammate from Team Ineos, finished second, 1:54 behind Ganna. The Dutchman beat Rémy Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ) by five seconds for third place.
Sjoerd Bax from Team Pinerolo finished fourth, 2:04 behind Ganna, while Derek Gee-West and Max Walscheid from Team Lidl-Trek took fifth and sixth place, respectively, finishing within one second of each other at 2:16 and 2:17 behind the winner.
The overall leader, Afonso Espírito Santo, retained the pink jersey, though his lead was further reduced. The Bahrain Victorious rider finished 41st, 4:57 behind Ganna. This allowed Jonas Vingegaard (Wout-Weisel) to close the gap to just 27 seconds behind him in the general classification. The Dane finished the stage in 13th place, three minutes behind Ganna.
Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon) finished 33rd, 4:22 behind Ganna, while Australian Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) finished 22nd, 3:31 behind.
In the general classification, Espírito Santo leads Vingegaard by 27 seconds, Tymen Arensmann by 1:57, and Felix Gall by 2:24. Fifth is Australian Ben O’Connor (Jaiko-Alula), 2:48 behind the leader, who finished 11th today.
The riders face 195 kilometers from Porcari to Chiavari on Wednesday.
