The U21 Nightmare Ends

Is the crisis finally over? For FCSB, the reigning champions of Romania, the 2024-2025 season was a logistical headache. The league’s strict U21 player rule plagued the squad, forcing technical workarounds that never quite stuck. Elias Charalambous tried every trick in the book, but nothing provided a permanent solution. After a humiliating 1-4 home defeat to CFR Cluj in Matchday 23, owner Gigi Becali even ordered goalkeeper Matei Popa to start, just to satisfy the regulations. It was chaos. It was desperation. But now? The storm has passed.

The savior is Ricardo Pădurariu. Born in 2007, the 19-year-old left-back is back in Bucharest, and the club officials are calling it a masterstroke. "Ricardo Pădurariu could be vital for us. He was born in 2007, and we have huge hopes for him," said Mihai Stoica on PrimaSport. "If he is what we believe, we can double up with another under-age player who can play both right and left."

From Loan Stardom to First-Team Hope

Pădurariu didn’t just sit on the bench during his absence. He was a titan at Corvinul Hunedoara. Loaned there in July 2025, he started 32 of 33 matches across the second division and the Romanian Cup. He scored three goals and delivered one assist, including a standout performance against Chindia in the playoffs where he came on at halftime. His versatility is gold. He can lock down the left flank or cover the right, a luxury FCSB desperately needed.

His international pedigree is equally impressive. A youth international since 2022 with the U15 team, he has now reached the U19 level, featuring twice for Romania in 2025. Under manager Adrian Dulcea, he proved his readiness in pre-season friendlies. He played the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 win against a Cypriot side in October, helping overturn an early deficit. He came off the bench in a 1-2 loss in the second friendly at the National Football Center in Buftea. The pieces are falling into place.

A New Era for the Tricolorii

The return of Pădurariu means Risto Radunovic can focus on his role without the squad being stretched thin by regulatory gymnastics. FCSB had previously loaned Pădurariu to Gloria Bistrița in January 2025, but the move to Hunedoara proved to be the crucible that forged his confidence. Now, with the U21 rule satisfied naturally, the club can look ahead with clarity. The 2007-born defender isn’t just a rule-compliance tool; he’s a prospect with serious upside. The headache is gone. The future is bright.
