Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina clinched the title of the WTA 1000 clay-court tournament in Rome on May 17, 2026, with a prize money of $8,312,293. Svitolina, ranked seventh, emerged victorious in a hard-fought final against American Coco Gauff, with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2.

In the first set, Svitolina faced a 2-4 deficit but managed to turn it around, leading the match and sealing the set with two successful first serves for a final score of 6-4.

The second set was evenly matched, with Gauff taking the tiebreaker after winning four consecutive points following a 3-3 deadlock, leveling the match.

In the third set, Svitolina broke twice and concluded the match in her third opportunity after two hours and 51 minutes.

The 31-year-old Ukrainian, currently ranked tenth in the world, won her third title in the Italian capital. Her previous triumphs in Rome were in 2017 and 2018.

This victory marks Svitolina's fourth win in six matches against Coco Gauff, who lost her second consecutive final in Rome.
