After setting a new indoor world record in the heptathlon in March, Simon Ehamer has set his sights on a significant goal—completing his collection of medals from European athletics championships.

In 2022, he won his first medal—a silver in the decathlon. The following year, he added a bronze in the long jump. In 2026, at the European Championships in Birmingham, Ehamer is determined to round out his collection with the most prestigious award—the gold.

"I still can't find the words to describe the indoor world gold," Ehamer shared with European Athletics. "When I watch the video of all the events and the result, it's still mind-blowing. It brings me so much joy and is such a great achievement that I am incredibly happy and proud of myself. This gives me a lot of energy for the outdoor season."

Every medal he has won holds a special place in his heart, making it always special to look back and see how far he has come.

He participated in his first decathlon of the year in Brescia, Italy, in April, achieving a score of 8361 points—just around 200 points off his personal best.

Ehamer will face his main gold medal competitor, world champion Leo Neuerbauer, at the European Championships. The two will face off at the Gotzis tournament on May 30-31.

Ehamer is excited about returning to the UK, where he has cherished memories from competitions, including winning his first indoor world title in Glasgow in 2024.

"I am very excited about the Europeans, as I competed in the Diamond League in London, and the atmosphere was incredible, the crowd was fantastic," he said.

"I also competed at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, where the crowd was also fantastic, and the competition was great."
