Džon Meri has become a tragic figure in Vojvodina's history after his crucial penalty was saved by Crveno-beli goalkeeper Mateus, leading to the Pehe Cup of Serbia being awarded to Belgrade's club. Following the final, Meri took to social media to vent his frustration, addressing numerous abusive messages he received and criticizing the referees' decisions.

"I missed the penalty and I deeply regret it, but no one noticed that the goalkeeper stepped off the line before saving my shot. If you're going to criticize me, at least watch the replay again. The threats and insults directed at my mother and family are unacceptable. I can handle being insulted, but please leave my mother out of this," Meri wrote.

Meri acknowledged that it was unprofessional of him to write such a message, but he felt compelled to express his feelings openly. "I used to be a hot-headed player, but now I've chosen to be humble. Insult me, criticize me, but don't involve my mother in this."

The player also expressed his disappointment with the officiating, saying, "Crvena Zvezda has performed its usual magic with the referees, which is a great shame for football. But let's focus on the future. Vojvodina means a lot to me, and it is my home. We should not let this incident destroy our club."
