Former Dinamo legend Slavko Ištvanić, who played 527 matches for the "blues," has canceled a planned protest outside the Maksimir stadium, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 11 AM. Ištvanić, aged 59, told us over the phone that he did not attend due to health issues. He announced he plans to stand by the Bad Blue Boys monument until someone from the club receives him.
- Yesterday, I tried to enter the club, but they did not let me in, which caused me to become upset and feel unwell, Ištvanić said in a phone conversation.
Ištvanić is demanding 70,000 euros without interest, asserting that the debt is based on a court ruling from 1997. The dispute is over a contract he signed with Dinamo when the club operated as a citizens' association. According to Ištvanić, Dinamo has claimed that the current club is not the legal successor and therefore cannot assume the debt. He argues that if the club can take over its history and trophies, it must also assume its debts, and he has the necessary documentation to support his claims.
In the past, he threatened a hunger strike over this issue, emphasizing that the situation has not improved with the arrival of the new club management under Velimir Zajec. Ištvanić highlights that his fight is also for his son, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
- I am doing this for my sick son. This is my battle that I will not give up on, he said earlier.
It is unclear if he will return to the stadium when he recovers, and no new protest has been announced. We reached out to Dinamo, but we have not received a response.
I can't believe Dinamo is treating one of their greatest legends like this. They should be ashamed and step up to help Slavko and his son. What are your thoughts?
