Croatian marathon swimmer Dina Levačić has successfully completed a challenging route around the island of Coronado in San Diego. She spent just under five hours in the water, covering approximately 19 kilometers, or 10.25 nautical miles. Although this is not one of the longest routes she has undertaken, swimming in the Coronado area requires significant physical and mental preparation.
The route involves navigating the varying conditions of the Pacific Ocean, including ocean currents, waves, ship traffic, and an open sea finale, which further complicated the challenge. "The route was truly special. I had a panoramic view of the city and swam past a naval base where an American aircraft carrier was docked, which was a special experience. The last five kilometers were in open sea, making the conditions a bit more challenging," Levačić said after completing the swim.
Finishes in Under 5 Hours
Levačić maintained a steady pace throughout the swim, according to reports from her team, and passed key points of the planned route without major issues. After about an hour in the water, she was in good condition and later passed a known area called The Jetty, marking the end of the swim.
Upon reaching the finish, she expressed satisfaction with the result, particularly with the fact that she completed the route in under five hours. This result confirms her high level of preparation and consistency in competing at demanding open-water locations around the world.
This is another international challenge in a series of extreme swims completed by Dina Levačić. In recent months, she has undertaken several challenging swims, including one around the island of Saint Helena, where she became the first person to complete that demanding route.
Dina's got serious chops in open water. I can't wait to see what she tackles next! Is she unstoppable?
