A Croatia Airlines Airbus A220 (9A-CAN), flight OU 412, experienced an incident on Saturday around 1:30 PM on the runway at Split Airport. The aircraft, destined for Frankfurt, inexplicably veered off the runway and ended up on the grass, causing damage to the marker board and edge lights. The plane was carrying 132 passengers and five crew members.
Following the incident, all passengers were safely disembarked, and technical services are working to remove the aircraft from the runway. A video of the moment the plane veered off the runway was posted on social media platform X.
"The Airbus A220-300 of Croatia Airlines veered off the runway and ended up on the grass surface during an aborted take-off from Split Airport in Croatia. The aircraft sustained damage from colliding with a marker board and runway edge lights. All passengers and crew members are safe, and there are no reported injuries," the post explained.
A reader who was with 24sata.hr described that the plane picked up runway lights during takeoff, and parts and smoke scattered. “Takeoff is not aborted without reason. This was definitely for a reason, and to save the passengers,” she said, noting that the passengers remained calm.
Another reader who was nearby at the time of takeoff stated that all passengers had disembarked. “They are just towing the plane. It is not clear exactly what happened, but it was mostly due to a failure during takeoff,” the reader added.

This is a serious incident that highlights the importance of air safety. I can't imagine the stress passengers and crew must have felt. What measures will Croatia Airlines take to prevent such accidents in the future?
