Bulgarian Wrestler Stefan Stefanov Wins Silver at European Youth Championship
Bulgarian wrestler Stefan Stefanov secured a silver medal at the European Youth Wrestling Championship in Samokov, with fellow Bulgarians Radoslav Velikov and Nikolay Iliev also reaching the finals. Stefanov won three matches in the 110 kg category without losing a technical point until the final, where he lost 0:3 to Murtaaz Bagdavadze of Georgia. Earlier, Mert Mustafov finished fifth in the 55 kg freestyle category after losing to Temuri Tutarashvili of Georgia with a score of 0:11. Petko Sarakostov lost the small final in the 65 kg category to Istvan Nad of Romania with a score of 4:15.
On Sunday, Bulgaria had two more finalists. Radoslav Velikov reached the gold medal bout in the 45 kg category, defeating three opponents. He defeated Alexander Khomov of Belarus with a score of 7:0 and Daniel Matei of Romania with 11:0 before facing Erik Gazarjan in the semifinals. The Armenian led 7:4 with half a minute left, but Velikov made a big comeback and won with a score of 11:7. Tomorrow, the 16-year-old Bulgarian national will face Marco Kvasnyuk of Ukraine in the gold medal bout.
Following Velikov, Nikolay Iliev also reached the finals. The Bulgarian defeated Cemal Purcu of Turkey with a score of 7:5 in the 71 kg category, then successively overcame Abel Kacho of Romania with 11:0, Mark Zemen of Hungary with 10:0, and Dmitry Kursenko of Ukraine with 13:3. In the final, he will face Artyom Ananyan of Russia.
