Bulgarian Davis Cup representative Piotr Nestor reached the doubles semifinals of the clay-court tennis tournament in Reggio Emilia, Italy, which carries a prize fund of $30,000.
Nestor and his Italian partner Augusto Virgili were defeated by Russia's Kirill Kivatcev and Italy's Tomaso Compagnucci with a score of 7-6(4), 4-6, [3-10]. The match lasted 1 hour and 23 minutes.
In the first set, Nestor and Virgili won the tiebreak after leading from 4-4 to 7-4. Despite this, they failed to secure the second set, losing it after a single break in the third game. The decisive third set was clinched by Kivatcev and Compagnucci, who won 10-3 in the tiebreak, ending Nestor and Virgili's tournament run.
Last week, Piotr Nestor won the singles title at another tournament in Italy of the same category.
I can't believe Nestor lost in the doubles semifinals after such a strong singles performance last week. Is the pressure of representing Bulgaria in Davis Cup getting to him? Let's see if he can bounce back next time!
