Bulgarian Sports Minister Marks National Sports Day Amid 500 Kids in NSA
Sports Minister Encho Keriazov marked National Sports Day on May 17 at the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski". He participated in the official opening of the children's athletics tournament "Go! Kids!", organized by the Bulgarian Athletics Federation and "Priority Sport". Over 500 children, aged between 5 and 16, took part in the event.
Also in attendance were NSA Rector Prof. Krasimir Petrov and President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Vesela Lecheva.
“There’s no better way to celebrate this holiday than to be among our youngest athletes, surrounded by their energy, smiles, and genuine joy of sports,” declared Minister Keriazov.
He highlighted that children are the future of Bulgarian sports and congratulated the organizers for their efforts in the development of children's sports.
“I thank the coaches and parents for believing in the children, supporting them, and helping them follow their dreams,” Keriazov added.
The official guests started the competitions and awarded the winners in various disciplines. During the day, the minister, Prof. Petrov, and Vesela Lecheva visited other sports activities in the NSA campus, including a state championship in field hockey and an open tennis lesson.
Later, Minister Keriazov participated in the celebration of National Sports Day at the Olympic Educational Center of NSA, with the participation of students and athletes.
“Places like this are extremely important because they remind us that behind every great achievement are history, knowledge, hard work, and values that we must preserve and pass on to future generations. Thank you for choosing to engage in sports,” Minister Keriazov said.
Before the start of the sports events, Minister Encho Keriazov held a meeting with Prof. Krasimir Petrov, Vesela Lecheva, and representatives of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and NSA. They discussed the role of sports for the health and development of young people, the need for tighter cooperation among institutions, and investments in coaching staff, technology, and modern education. The participants agreed that sports should be a sustainable public priority.
This event shows the true spirit of sport, fostering the next generation of athletes! But do we really have the resources and commitment to make sports a priority for our young people? It's a question we need to keep asking ourselves as fans.
