Bulgarian gymnast David Ivanov clinched a gold medal for his country in the final of the pommel horse event at the World Cup in Varna. Ivanov, the winner of the tournament in Baku, demonstrated excellent form and executed his routine flawlessly, scoring the highest points in the competition – 14.633 (6.0 difficulty and 8.633 execution).
Ivanov's performance surpassed that of three-time Olympic champion Max Whitlock from the UK, who made an error in his execution and ended up with the lowest score among the top eight competitors.
In the floor exercise final, Dimitar Dimitrov did not manage to secure a medal. Despite being a multiple finalist in European championships for the pommel horse, he made mistakes upon landing, which affected his final score. The gymnast from CSKA ended up fifth with 13.133 points (5.2 difficulty, 8.033 execution, and a 0.1 deduction).
The floor exercise title went to Belgian Viktor Tonikurt with a score of 13.466 points.
Bulgaria will have five more finalists this Sunday. Daniel Trifonov will compete in the rings and horizontal bar, Yoan Ivanov and Jordan Alexandrov will vie for honors on the parallel bars, and Nikol Stoyanov will represent the country on the pommel horse.
The finals will begin at 14:00 in the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, and admission is free for spectators.
