Beşiktaş parted ways with technical director Sergen Yalçın following the early exit from the Süper Lig and a semi-final exit in the Türkiye Kupası. A meeting at Nevzat Demir Tesisleri concluded with the resignation of the 53-year-old Yalçın. The club is now eyeing four potential candidates for the position.
FOUR CANDIDATES ON THE TABLE
The four names on the shortlist are:
ŞENOL GÜNEŞ
The first candidate, Şenol Güneş, a 73-year-old experienced coach with the respect of fans and the community. In a recent interview with commentator Ali Ece, Güneş expressed his gratitude to the Beşiktaş fans who believe he is worthy of the position.
DİNO TOPPMÖLLER
The second candidate, Dino Toppmöller, was recommended by the club's technical and scouting chief, Eduard Graf. The 45-year-old Toppmöller began his coaching career in 2021 as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich before becoming the head coach at Frankfurt from 2023 to 1026. He achieved an average of 1.55 points per match during his tenure at Frankfurt. Toppmöller is currently without a club.
RAZVAN LUCESCU
The third candidate, Razvan Lucescu, the son of the late legendary coach Mircea Lucescu. The 57-year-old Romanian coach, who has previously been mentioned in connection with Beşiktaş, has been coaching PAOK in Greece since 2021. Over 256 matches, he achieved an average of 1.89 points per game. Should a club outside the top five European leagues approach Razvan, PAOK would be entitled to a 4 million euro release fee.
RUBEN AMORIM
The final candidate, Ruben Amorim, a favorite of the Beşiktaş management. The 41-year-old Portuguese coach, who last led Manchester United, has been out of work since January 5th. During his tenure at Manchester United, he achieved an average of 1.43 points per match. However, his career peak was at Sporting, where he coached from 2020 to 2024, achieving an average of 2.28 points per match over 230 games.
This is a tough decision for Beşiktaş. But who do you think is the best fit? Şenol Güneş brings experience, Dino Toppmöller has potential, Razvan Lucescu has a family legacy, and Ruben Amorim has the passion. Who gets the nod? Let's talk!
