Dion Drena Beljo has achieved a significant milestone, scoring his 30th goal in the Croatian First Football League (HNL) this season. This impressive feat has placed him as the second-best single-season goalscorer in the competition's history, trailing only Eduardo da Silva's 34-goal record set in 2006/07. Beljo's goal against Hajduk in the 65th minute, which involved a header from a Matija Lišić cross, surpassed Goran Vlaović's previous record of 29 goals set in the 1993/94 season.
The Vinkovci native has now scored against all nine HNL clubs this season, a feat shared with Jakov Puljić. Despite this achievement, the inclusion of Beljo in the 26-player squad for the upcoming World Cup is not guaranteed. The national team coach Zlatko Dalić will announce the final list of players on May 18, taking into account the intense competition in the forward positions.
Beljo had two more chances to score his 31st goal in the match, but missed after dodging Ismaël Bennacer and goalkeeper Toni Silić's defense. The striker's performance has certainly caught the attention of many, and fans are eagerly awaiting the World Cup squad announcement.
