Esmin Bajraktarević, one of the most promising young European football players and a representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), spoke to TRT Balkan about his life journey, growing up, and his special connection to BiH.

Eleven for History and Father's Nerves

The talented footballer recalled scoring the penalty in the decisive match against Italy, which secured BiH’s place at the World Cup. Although he found it hard to describe the feeling in words, he shared a story about his father, who was too nervous to watch the crucial moment. "We have a terrace at home. My dad went out and couldn’t watch. He was just pacing back and forth through the door," Bajraktarević recounted.

A Confident Response to the Hardest Rival

Bajraktarević's confidence was evident in his response to the question of who has been his toughest opponent so far: "No one." The winger of PSV Eindhoven showed exceptional performance in the semi-finals and final of the World Cup qualifiers. Bajraktarević played the full 120 minutes in both matches against Wales and Italy, scoring the penalty that sealed the victory against Italy.

This young BiH representative demonstrated his ability to handle immense pressure, stress, and expectations, catching the attention of several top clubs.

American Bosnian

Bajraktarević is the son of Bosnian immigrants born in America. He plays for PSV Eindhoven, which acquired him from New England Revolution for €3 million at the beginning of last year. In the Dutch powerhouse, the 16-year-old senior Ivan Perišić immediately took Bajraktarević under his wing.

This season, Bajraktarević won his second league title with PSV. In 38 appearances, he scored seven goals and provided five assists, despite being a starter only 11 times. Transfermarkt values him at €5 million. He has made 14 appearances for the BiH national team.
