Athens International Airport saw an 8.1% increase in passenger traffic during the first quarter of 2026, serving 6.3 million travelers. Despite this growth, the airport faced lower profitability due to temporary reductions in airline charges. The airport began 2026 with strong passenger growth, with traffic increasing particularly strongly in January and February. However, March showed early signs of a slowdown due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Total revenue for the Athens-listed airport operator declined by 5.7% to €117.9 million. This decrease was largely attributed to a 30% reduction in the Passenger Service Fee, which was in effect from October 2025 through April 2026. The fee reduction also impacted profitability, with Adjusted EBITDA falling 14.9% year-on-year to €55.3 million, and net profits dropping to €18.9 million.

Commercial and non-aviation activities continued to expand, supported by rising passenger numbers. However, consumer spending at the airport slowed amid uncertainty linked to developments in the Middle East. The airport's major expansion program continues to progress, with construction underway on a new multi-storey car park with 3,365 spaces, and a new aircraft parking area with 32 remote stands. The tender process for the expansion of the main and satellite terminals is also ongoing.

Athens International Airport also completed its dividend reinvestment program with strong shareholder participation, raising €83.25 million to support future aviation-related investments.
