Carlos Alcaraz, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has announced his withdrawal from the 2025 Wimbledon tournament due to an ankle injury. The Spanish tennis star, who won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 and reached the final in 2025, will now miss three consecutive years of the grass court event at the All England Club.
"The recovery is going well, and I feel much better, but unfortunately, I am still not ready to compete. Therefore, I have to withdraw from the grass court tournaments, including the Queen's Club and Wimbledon," Alcaraz shared on Instagram. "These are two very special tournaments for me and will be greatly missed. We will keep working to return as soon as possible."
Ankle Injury Continues to Plague
Alcaraz first experienced ankle issues on April 14 during his first-round win in Barcelona against Otto Virtanen. Despite initial indications that the injury was not severe, he was forced to withdraw from his next match. This led to further withdrawals from the Rome Masters and the French Open, where he was defending his titles.
Grass Season Missed
Further examinations revealed that Alcaraz is suffering from tendinitis of the ankle, a condition known as tenosynovitis. Due to this, he will miss the entire grass season, including the Queen's Club, and will not have the opportunity to defend his titles at Wimbledon, where he won in 2023 and 2024 and reached the final in 2025.
This is a massive blow to Wimbledon's excitement. Alcaraz is a fan favorite, and his absence will be felt. Can anyone step up and fill the void left by his injury?
