Adrian Popa has spoken about his future following Steaua București's 2-4 defeat to FC Voluntari in the final playoff match of Liga 2. This loss eliminated FC Voluntari from direct promotion to the SuperLiga, despite finishing level on points with Sepsi OSK at 64 each. However, Sepsi OSK secured the direct promotion due to their superior points record from the regular season.
FC Voluntari will now face a relegation/promotion playoff match, where they will play against Hermannstadt or Unirea Slobozia, depending on the final standings in the SuperLiga play-out matches.
Adi Popa Leaves Steaua București: "I'm Leaving and Not Thinking About Anything"
At the end of the match, Adi Popa drew conclusions after another season without Steaua earning a promotion right.
"Honestly, I don't know what I will do. I want to go on vacation with my family for 2-3 weeks and detach myself. Physically, I think I can still play; I played 90 minutes, scored a goal and made an assist. I believe I can, but only I can decide whether I can or not. I'm looking forward to this vacation, to go somewhere and not think about anything. What happens here matters the most!" Adi Popa said.
CSA Steaua București ended the season without a promotion right. Adi Popa has played 98 matches for Steaua and has 24 caps for the Romanian national team.
Adi Popa leaving Steaua București after such a tough season is a blow to the team's morale. Will he find a new club that appreciates his skills? Or is this the start of the end for one of Romania's most talented players?
