Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has announced the official 26-man squad for the World Cup this summer in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The biggest news is the return of 40-year-old goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Many German media outlets had speculated about his return due to his strong season and calls from legends for him to play in North America.

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper had retired from the national team after Euro 2024, but was convinced by the leadership to return for his fifth World Cup, where he will be the titular goalkeeper.

After Neuer's retirement, the titular goalkeeper for Germany was supposed to be Marc-André ter Stegen, but the Barcelona goalkeeper went through a series of injuries. In the qualifiers, Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim was the keeper. Nagelsmann admitted it was a blow to him when he told Baumann about Neuer's return.

The squad also includes the 18-year-old talent Lenart Karl from Bayern Munich, who was trained by Bulgarian Petar Gaydarov at his school.
