The 2026 World Cup, the largest in history with 48 participating teams, includes two Balkan representatives: Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
Croatia reached the final in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and was third in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
BiH qualified for the World Cup for the second time after Brazil 2014, defeating Wales and Italy in the playoff, winning on penalties.
Defending the title of world champions is Argentina, a three-time World Cup winner in history.
The hosts of the World Cup are the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The World Cup begins on June 11 with a match between Mexico and South Africa at the famous Azteca Stadium, concluding on July 19 with the final match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Mexico will become the first country to host three World Cups, having previously hosted in 1970 and 1986.
The USA will host the World Cup for the second time since 1994, and it will be Canada's first time hosting.
A total of 104 matches will be played across 16 cities in the USA, Canada, and Mexico — 78 matches in the USA, 13 each in Canada and Mexico.
It remains unclear whether Iran will participate in the World Cup due to current conflicts with the USA and Israel and geopolitical issues.
